Turbo VPN Review

Are you looking for a free VPN service and wondering if Turbo VPN fits the bill? With more than 50 million active users around the world, the latter is no doubt one of the most popular VPN service providers in the market today. Much of it has to do with the fact that their VPN service is available for free. Of course, free VPNs don’t exactly have a good reputation in the VPN market. Most of them are slow, unsafe, and even sell their users’ information to third parties. Is the same true for Turbo VPN? Let’s find out in this Turbo VPN review!

What is Turbo VPN?

Turbo VPN is a China-based VPN company that offers free mobile-only VPN service to users.

Will Turbo VPN work with Windows?

Unfortunately, that means that you can’t use Turbo VPN for PC and will have to use another VPN to protect your other devices. That said, you can access Turbo VPN for free although they do offer a paid plan (more on that later) and perks that you typically wouldn’t find in a free VPN service.

Unlike most other free VPNs in the market, Turbo VPN has no bandwidth restrictions and offers nine server locations including Asia, North America, and Europe. However, is that enough to say that Turbo VPN is an excellent choice for a VPN? Is it a good (and free) alternative to premium VPN services like NordVPN, IPVanish, and Private Internet Access? To find out, we’ll have to delve deeper into its pros and cons.

Turbo VPN Review

Advantages

The problem with most other free VPNs is that they don’t offer much in the way of security. Fortunately, Turbo VPN isn’t one of them as they implement OpenVPN for their data security protocol. As you may already know, the latter is currently touted as the best tunneling protocol in the VPN business. Its open-source system is continually being updated by data security experts from around the world. If that’s enough, Turbo VPN also has AES-256 data encryption, the same encryption protocol employed by government intelligence agencies like the NSA and the CIA.

In addition to its best-in-class tunneling and data encryption protocol, Turbo VPN also offers proven DNS and WebRTC leak protection. This ensures that user information is kept hidden and out of reach from unscrupulous third parties.

Another great thing about Turbo VPN is that it works with torrenting and does not restrict your bandwidth in any way. This makes it an excellent choice for torrent users looking for a free VPN that they can use to protect their personal information. That said, Turbo VPN only runs on mobile so users will have to download their torrents on a smartphone.

Does Turbo VPN work with Netflix?

Last but not least is that Turbo VPN is among the few VPN services on the market that works with Netflix. That said, you will need a paid VIP account to access their Netflix-capable servers. Unfortunately, none of their free VPN servers work with Netflix, which can be a bummer. If you’re looking for a free VPN server that you can use to watch geo-blocked content on Netflix, you will need to look elsewhere.

Disadvantages

As you can see from the advantages mentioned above, Turbo VPN is one of the better ones out there when it comes to free VPNs. That said, it suffers from the same cons that plague all free VPNs in the market. For one thing, Turbo VPN’s privacy policy is dubious at best stating that they log no information from users but may elect to share the information that they collect from users in various ways. So which is it?

Another area for concern is the fact that Turbo VPN is based out of China — a country that’s not exactly big on Internet privacy. The Chinese government is known to impose strict Internet censorship on citizens and control any information obtained by companies which of course includes Turbo VPN. If you’re not comfortable knowing that the Chinese government may know all about your Internet activities, then you’d want to give Turbo VPN a hard pass.

Another disadvantage of using Turbo VPN is that users have to deal with ads now and then. This isn’t surprising considering that serving advertisements is how all free VPNs make money. That said, their ads aren’t as annoying as other free VPNs and typically only show up when starting their app and connecting or disconnecting from their VPN servers. You can get rid of the ads altogether by upgrading to a VIP account for $11.99 per month, which brings us to the next con.

Turbo VPN’s premium service is expensive and puts it on par with top-rated premium VPNs like NordVPN and ExpressVPN. That wouldn’t be so bad except that for roughly the same price, you get far less performance with Turbo VPN. For one thing, their servers are much slower compared to other premium VPNs. Also, users have limited server options (only 26+ servers) and lack helpful features such as an Internet Kill Switch. Compare that to let’s say, NordVPN which charges $11.95 per month but offers access to more than 5,500 servers worldwide and all the features you could want out of a VPN, it’s easy to see that Turbo VPN’s premium value is meager at best.

While you can get a VIP account with Turbo VPN for only $2.99 per month but only if you pay in advance for 12 months, that said, the same is true with most other top-rated premium VPNs. NordVPN, in particular, offers a 3-year plan for just $2.99 per month. Hence, if you want a free VPN for light use, then Turbo VPN is a suitable option. However, if you must pay for a VPN service, then it is safe to say that there are better options out there.

How to Install Turbo VPN

Now that we’ve covered the pros and cons of using Turbo VPN, you might be wondering how to install the latter on your mobile device. As you will see from the steps below, the process is relatively straightforward.

Turbo VPN Review for Android

  • Open Google Play Store and search for “Turbo VPN.”
  • Select Turbo VPN and tap on the “Install” button to download Turbo VPN and install the application.
  • Open the Turbo VPN app. You will be asked to agree to their Privacy Policy. Tap on “I agree” to proceed.
  • Tap on the carrot button and it should automatically connect you to their fastest VPN server.
  • At this point, you now have Turbo VPN installed and running on your Android device.

Turbo VPN for iOS

  • For iOS devices, the process is fairly similar with the exception of the App Store. Open the latter and search for “Turbo VPN.”
  • Select “Turbo VPN Private Browser” and tap on Turbo VPN download and install it on your iOS device.
  • Tap on “I Agree” to their Privacy Policy.
  • Tap on the carrot button to start the VPN connection.
  • Turbo VPN is now installed and running on your iOS device.

Is Turbo VPN Safe?

At this point, one question remains is Turbo VPN Safe? Well, the short answer is that it’s safe as it can be for a free VPN. While their security protocols are on par with some of the best VPN services on the market (OpenVPN and AES 256), their Privacy Policy leaves much to be desired. If you are not comfortable with the fact that your VPN might be selling your information to advertisers and other interested parties, then Turbo VPN might not be the best choice when it comes to privacy and security.

Is Turbo VPN the same as Rabbit VPN?

Yes.

Turbo VPN Review Summary

So there you have it everything that you must know about using Turbo VPN for your VPN service. As a free VPN service, Turbo VPN has much to offer in terms of security and bandwidth. It’s no doubt the only reason behind its popularity despite their questionable logging policies and the fact that they are a China-based VPN company. That said, we wouldn’t recommend upgrading to their paid service, which is expensive and offers little value for your money. Not when there are plenty of other top-rated alternatives that provide better performance and more features for roughly the same cost (if not cheaper).
